Over 700 games and Still Growing!

Just got back from my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore and came back with a pretty decent haul. 19 Sega Genesis games, 2 Sega Genesis RF Switches, a power supply for a Sega Genesis, Mortal Kombat strategy guide, 5 Sega Genesis controllers, 6 SNES games(Including The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past and Mega Man X), and a Super NES system for $84. I then went down the block to Goodwill and picked up a complete in box NES Advantage joystick for $5. All of this in addition to recently brokering deals for 21 SNES games from a friend at work and a deal for about 25 NES cartridges, a NES top loader, and a SNES system bringing the total of my complete game collection to over 700 games!

I went to Roses today and got the Transformers Legends figures that were supposed to come out at Wal-Mart(but never did). I got Megatron(G1 Gun Mode! YES!), Starscream, Optimus Prime, Prowl, Bumblebee, and Trailbreaker. And over at Goodwill I got Strider 2(PS1)(w/ Strider 1(PS1) Disc) in great shape for $0.50, as well as a Mortal Kombat Trilogy Strategy Guide for $1.

I bid on an auction on eBay for Star Trek 25th Anniversary for Game Boy. I was the ONLY bidder. The auction ended at $2.99 with around $2.45 S/H. I ended up paying around $5.50 give or take for the game. Now I know you're asking what does this have to do with the picture of Star Trek 25th Anniversary NES? Well, the game in the picture is what I received. Now I have no idea if there was a screw-up at eBay or not, but I do know that I am much happier with this game. This game sells for no less than $27 on eBay and I got SUPA lucky to get this for so cheap! SCORE! :-D

I also won auctions for Rad Races(NES) and The 3D Battles of WorldRunner(NES) W/Manual* (*WorldRunner is the first game Square released on the Nintendo Entertainment System(NES) in America). And a coworker at my job sold me a copy of Ranma 1/2:Hard Battle for Super NES, so that's a good addition to my game collection.

I went into my local Goodwill and lo and behold, they had more NES games!They have started getting pricey lately though,with their game prices gradually moving up from $2 to $4 each. Seems like they noticed that every time they get retro games in, I come by and clean them out. So anyway, I couldn't talk them down from their $4 each price, and picked up 16 games ayway. I picked up:

My roommate kept an eye on an eBay auction for me for Clock Tower and Resident Evil 3 w/Dino Crisis Demo Disc. The auction went off for around $45 with shipping. The discs came in about 2 days and were pristine. I mean I'm not sure if either game's disc had ever seen the inside of a PS1. For those in the know, getting a complete pristine copy of Clock Tower can be a little pricey at times, but getting it with the pristine RE3 complete with it's Dino Crisis Disc, was a good deal.

I will be talking more about my adventures in retro game collecting and while I will occasionally post a personal opinion blog, they will be less profanity filled than they have been. Since so many game series are getting compilations on PS3(i.e. God of War Collection, Tomb Raider Trilogy, ICO/Shadow of the Colossus, Sly Cooper Trilogy etc.), why not a Final Fantasy collection? I could definitely see Square-Enix releasing a compilation of all versions of Final Fantasy 1-6, PS1 classics versions of Final Fantasy 7-9and Tactics, PS2 versions of Final Fantasy X, X-2, and 12, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and pretty much all other spin off FF games like Vagrant Story, Ergheiz, Final Fantasy Adventure 1-3, etc. Just up the resolution on the games add trophy support fr all games and they would ALL fit on ONE Blu-Ray. AND they could add FF commercials and other background info. I can almost guarantee that such a compilation would sell like hot cakes even if it was priced at $100. Final Fantasy sells like crack to addicts, so this one is a no-brainer.....so what's the hold up? Does Square-Enix just not like easy money? I mean it can't cost that much to port these games over to PS3, and make a massive profit on these games, so....... just sayin'.......

Awesome Anime Vol.2 - Excel Saga

Excel Saga.... From the moment you turn the dvd on, the parody and insanity are wall to wall for every minute of the show's 26 episode run as well as the 6 dvd's the try futilely to contain the madness of show creator's Koushi Rikudou's creations. The show revolves around the adventures or should I say, Mis-Adventures of Excel, Hyatt, and their illustrious leader Lord Illpalazzo as they try to drive all of the corruption out of the world and conquer the planet, starting one small Japanese city at a time. They are stymied at times by the city defense force Daitenzin, who are made up of civil servants dressed up in sentai outfits.(i.e like Power Rangers)
. Every episode is done in a different style, like action movie, love drama, kung fu flick, etc. and whenever things get too crazy the Great Will of the Macrocosm can reset the storyline. . .and is called upon to do so frequently, especially when Excel gets killed, which is quite often. lol Every episode is chock full of all sorts of fun things and running jokes and the very last episode is so full of completely inappropriate and hysterical material it has only ever been show once on Japanese television. So do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this series and be prepeared to laugh yourself silly. Just be sure to sit on a towel in case you wet yourself from laughing so much....

Awesome Anime Vol.1 - Martian Successor Nadesico

Martian Successor Nadesico...What can I say about such an awesome anime series? I loved it. That much I can say with certainty. I can also say that I highly recommend this show to anyone who enjoys action, humor, love, and a show that while it can be funny, can also be very dramatic as well. The basic premise of the show starts with a war between invaders from Jupiter fighting humans on Earth. Lead character Akito Tenkawa has a run in with former childhood romance and pain in his ass Yurika Misumaru, and in an attempt to return an item she dropped ends up on a ship called the Nadesico. This ship is created to fight off the invaders by Nergal Heavy Industries and it's captain just happens to be Yurika. Well general chaos ensues and you are introduced to the other supporting cast members in short order and the insanity and action ramp up and a grand scale. I can also promise you that there will be no lack of thrills and laughter, a few tears and a strong desire to see the show through all the way to the end of the last episode. Games I Enjoy Episode 1 - Persona 3

My first game in a series of games I enjoy is Persona 3. It is an interesting RPG in the Persona series, which in itself is a spin off of the SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI series. this game may seem odd at first, what with the shadow monsters and the idea of shooting yourself in the head to unleash your inner "Persona", but after a while putting the gun to your head and pulling the trigger seems like second nature. So far what I've played of the game seems to be fun and entertaining, and the mixture of role playing action mixed with the mechanics of having your character go to school participate in classes and activities and make friends to strengthen his persona through social links, makes the game so much more involving than the usual rpg fare. I do have to question why it is however that a game like this which depicts school kids(teenage at least) shooting themselves in the head, hasn't caught any real angry parent flack. I mean GTA and Bully got all sorts of hell for their content, even though in Bully you were an anti-hero type and in GTA there are NO KIDS, not to mention ZERO violence against children in GTA. So what gives? Is it supposed to be wrong to be a criminal who sleeps with hookers and massacres people all over a fictional city, but it's ok to have a game in which 17 year olds are shooting themselves in the head? I mean sure the kids in persona don't die when they do this, but still I'm surprised that professional loser and dirt bag Jack Thompson isn't all over this with his usual retarded abandon. I'm not complaining mind you because I DO enjoy the game, but it just seems odd to me that no one seems to have noticed this. Oh Well more head shooting fun for me I guess. And on an interesting side note, I picked up a mint used copy of this game complete with slipcover, Hardbound Art book, and Complete Soundtrack for $50, only to discover later on Amazon that badly damaged used copies of the game go for $80 and New ones for over $100. Sure is nice to be lucky, eh?

.......the names haven't been changed to protect the innocent as the subject of this story is an American icon and hero. Jack Webb was the star of both the radio and television versions of the popular drama Dragnet. Jack brought to life the character of Joe Friday, a tough but fair Detective Sergeant, who working for the Los Angeles Police Department. As Sergeant Friday worked throughout the various departments he was assigned to on a daily basis, his stories would tell fascinating and true stories of the real life LAPD. All of the stories on Dragnet WERE true, taken from the case files of the LAPD, and as the opening narrator would intone before every episode, "The names have been changed to protect the innocent."Jack's no nonsense style with Sgt. Friday's approach may have been parodied over the years, but without a doubt, his portrayal of the kind but tough Sergeant showed the world that the police are not our enemies, and they are just like us, with lives of their own, and a very tough job to do. His accurate portrayal of the police through the radio shows of the 50's and the tv shows of the 50's, 60's and 70's gave the police such a positive spin to the general public that when he died in the early 1980's, his tv badge number (714) was retired forever and he was given a full police burial with honors and a 21 gun salute. Jack Webb did more with his fictional detective Joe Friday to improve the police department's image with the public than hundreds of other television shows did. He was also loyal to his coworkers, as when he was asked to bring Dragnet from radio to television, he refused to have a new cast join him on the show. He insisted that the radio cast with whom he had been working for over 7 years be allowed to continue in their roles in the new medium. He said that he wouldn't accept the deal if he couldn't bring his coworkers and friends along to continue the great show they had done on radio. If you have only seen the 1987 movie version of Dragnet with Dan Ackroyd and Tom Hanks then you are doing yourself a serious disservice. While I like both actors and enjoyed the movie, I realize that it was just a parody of the original show and personally think they would have done a better job of it had they gone in and played it as a straight drama. However all complaints about the movie aside, the television show was revived in the past few years with Ed O'Neil and Ethan Embry as Joe Friday and his new partner. The show seemed alright as it stuck to the classic show formula that made the original famous and Ed channeled Jack as well as he could, but the network in it's oh so brilliant thinking decided that the original formula was unsuccessful and in Season 2 turned the show in to what was more or less CSI:DRAGNET, leading to it's decline in ratings and eventual cancellation. Either way, Jack Webb was on to something and he definitely caught a tiger by the tail back in 1949 with the first episode of Dragnet and never let go until his untimely death.
