Yes the lyrics to the Angry Video Game Nerd theme definitely describe filmmaker James Rolfe's creation. I found The Angry Video game Nerd on Youtube way back when he was the Angry Nintendo Nerd. (He had to change the name to prevent lawsuits from Nintendo when he started selling merchandise). I had never seen anything like him before. A grown man playing old NES games and screaming his fucking head off to profanity that would make a sailor blush. And all of his points were valid. As each review came out, he added and added to his reputation for being hysterically funny , clever and very much on point on his criticisms of these old games.Mr James Rolfe is a filmmaker who produces his work through his film company Cinemassacre. He has done many other projects and continues to do well at his craft and the few movies of his that I have been fortunate enough to see have been excellent. His documentaries, most notably "Rocky Jumped a Park Bench", have been well done, full of nostalgia and great production values. James created the AVGN one night as a private joke for his friends, a story of a nerd who has been through the hell of playing Castlevania II - Simon's Quest, and can't believe all of the bullshit in the game's flaws. So as he reviews the game and it's many shortcomings, he chugs a Rolling Rock beer and looks appropriately depressed and angry. His friends liked the video so much that they kept telling him to put the video online. Relenting, he placed the Simon's Quest review on YouTube and the rest as they say is history.

The AVGN's music is done excellently by Mr. Kyle Justin, who in the latest nerd video got to come from behind the couch and out of his theme song duties to help the nerd review Battletoads. In addition to the kick ass opening theme for the Nerd, Mr. Justin is also a musician in his own right, who has a great deal of excellent music on his Myspace and can be purchased through his website. All of the artwork for the AVGN is done by Mike Matei, who is also the person portraying all of the "guest" characters that come and harass the nerd. From Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, to the Cowardly Lion and Bugs Bunny, Mike has portrayed them all. His art work is excellent and can be viewed by clicking HERE.
As with all success stories come tons and tons of imitators, some good, some bad, and some who are just Douche bags. I refer to the Irate Gamer. A man who not only rips off the AVGN, but claims he was doing this first and that James ripped him off. Irate Gamer, you should be ashamed of yourself. You're a liar and a hypocrite and need to just go off somewhere and do your thing quietly and without bothering others. As to other similar game reviews, Armake21 and Spoony One are the cream of the crop when it comes to game reviews outside the world of AVGN.
