Ryan Reynolds = Deadpool? OH HELL YEAH!!!!!!

A friend of mine just emailed me the info that Ryan Reynolds of Blade Trinity, National Lampoon's Van Wilder and ....Waiting fame is set to play Deadpool in the new Wolverine movie and if he is liked as the self-healing half-nuts assassin, well then we've got a new franchise. I have long said that if Deadpool ever made it to the big screen that only Ryan Reynolds could play the character. Well apparently the movie gods heard me and granted my small request. WHOO-HOO!

Hidden Treasures Episode 1 - Reindeer Games

Welcome to the first installment in a new series I call Hidden Treasures. This series will be about various items that I feel are either overlooked or unfairly criticized. My first selection is the underrated movie Reindeer Games, starring the always entertaining Ben Affleck. Also starring with Ben are Charlize Theron, Isaac Hayes, Danny Trejo, and Gary Sinese. The plot is basically about a man in prison named Rudy(Affleck) who befriends his cell mate and learns over the time in prison about his cell mate Nick's former job at an Indian Casino, and how he had been writing back and forth with a female pen pal that he had planned to meet up with when he gets out of prison. Well one prison riot and shanking later and Nick is dead and Rudy leaves when his parole is due. Rudy decides in his infinite wisdom to impersonate Nick and shack up with Nick's pen pal girlfriend, only to be drawn into a conspiracy of criminals who plan on using Nick's intimate knowledge of the Casino to rob the place on Christmas Eve when security is relaxed. So now Nick/Rudy has to think fast to stay alive and thwart the robbery if he can. Personally, I believe that this movie isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It's a fun little movie for just relaxing, enjoying some action, some humor and not having to really work too hard at just having fun. Ben Affleck in my humble opinion receives way too much shit just for being who he is, and for who he has dated in the past. I think that the so called critics should just lay off of the guy and let him do his thing. And the last time I heard, movies were ENTERTAINMENT. Not every movie is going to be Citizen Kane, so give the movie a break. Reindeer Games is just a fun way to spend ninety minutes, and if you haven't seen it yet, go rent it, buy it, steal it, or download it and give it a chance. Who knows, you may even enjoy it. Oh, and if you do enjoy it, even just a little. Be sure to let people know that this movie ISN'T shit and that Ben Affleck isn't that bad of a guy.

Looking nice costs too much!

Nice shirt and jacket, eh? If you're a fan of Nintendo or Super Mario Brothers then these are the perfect apparel items for you right? Well unless you have a nice amount of green to throw down for these items. The shirt is $50 and the jacket $105. WOW. I was looking at buying them for myself until I saw the price. After I woke up from my spot on the floor, I climbed back up to the computer and noticed that the prices were not a dream, but they're serious. They're also apparently crazy to think that game players can afford these clothes. I may like video games, but Jeez that's too much for my tastes. As much as I want the items, I cannot afford prices like this. Thanks Nintendo for thinking of me, but try aiming a little cheaper next time.

Games I Enjoy Episode 1 - Persona 3

My first game in a series of games I enjoy is Persona 3. It is an interesting RPG in the Persona series, which in itself is a spin off of the SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI series. this game may seem odd at first, what with the shadow monsters and the idea of shooting yourself in the head to unleash your inner "Persona", but after a while putting the gun to your head and pulling the trigger seems like second nature. So far what I've played of the game seems to be fun and entertaining, and the mixture of role playing action mixed with the mechanics of having your character go to school participate in classes and activities and make friends to strengthen his persona through social links, makes the game so much more involving than the usual rpg fare. I do have to question why it is however that a game like this which depicts school kids(teenage at least) shooting themselves in the head, hasn't caught any real angry parent flack. I mean GTA and Bully got all sorts of hell for their content, even though in Bully you were an anti-hero type and in GTA there are NO KIDS, not to mention ZERO violence against children in GTA. So what gives? Is it supposed to be wrong to be a criminal who sleeps with hookers and massacres people all over a fictional city, but it's ok to have a game in which 17 year olds are shooting themselves in the head? I mean sure the kids in persona don't die when they do this, but still I'm surprised that professional loser and dirt bag Jack Thompson isn't all over this with his usual retarded abandon. I'm not complaining mind you because I DO enjoy the game, but it just seems odd to me that no one seems to have noticed this. Oh Well more head shooting fun for me I guess. And on an interesting side note, I picked up a mint used copy of this game complete with slipcover, Hardbound Art book, and Complete Soundtrack for $50, only to discover later on Amazon that badly damaged used copies of the game go for $80 and New ones for over $100. Sure is nice to be lucky, eh?

The story you are about to read is true.......

.......the names haven't been changed to protect the innocent as the subject of this story is an American icon and hero. Jack Webb was the star of both the radio and television versions of the popular drama Dragnet. Jack brought to life the character of Joe Friday, a tough but fair Detective Sergeant, who working for the Los Angeles Police Department. As Sergeant Friday worked throughout the various departments he was assigned to on a daily basis, his stories would tell fascinating and true stories of the real life LAPD. All of the stories on Dragnet WERE true, taken from the case files of the LAPD, and as the opening narrator would intone before every episode, "The names have been changed to protect the innocent."Jack's no nonsense style with Sgt. Friday's approach may have been parodied over the years, but without a doubt, his portrayal of the kind but tough Sergeant showed the world that the police are not our enemies, and they are just like us, with lives of their own, and a very tough job to do. His accurate portrayal of the police through the radio shows of the 50's and the tv shows of the 50's, 60's and 70's gave the police such a positive spin to the general public that when he died in the early 1980's, his tv badge number (714) was retired forever and he was given a full police burial with honors and a 21 gun salute. Jack Webb did more with his fictional detective Joe Friday to improve the police department's image with the public than hundreds of other television shows did. He was also loyal to his coworkers, as when he was asked to bring Dragnet from radio to television, he refused to have a new cast join him on the show. He insisted that the radio cast with whom he had been working for over 7 years be allowed to continue in their roles in the new medium. He said that he wouldn't accept the deal if he couldn't bring his coworkers and friends along to continue the great show they had done on radio. If you have only seen the 1987 movie version of Dragnet with Dan Ackroyd and Tom Hanks then you are doing yourself a serious disservice. While I like both actors and enjoyed the movie, I realize that it was just a parody of the original show and personally think they would have done a better job of it had they gone in and played it as a straight drama. However all complaints about the movie aside, the television show was revived in the past few years with Ed O'Neil and Ethan Embry as Joe Friday and his new partner. The show seemed alright as it stuck to the classic show formula that made the original famous and Ed channeled Jack as well as he could, but the network in it's oh so brilliant thinking decided that the original formula was unsuccessful and in Season 2 turned the show in to what was more or less CSI:DRAGNET, leading to it's decline in ratings and eventual cancellation. Either way, Jack Webb was on to something and he definitely caught a tiger by the tail back in 1949 with the first episode of Dragnet and never let go until his untimely death.

If you would like to download the entire Dragnet radio show please go to http://www.archive.org/details/OTRR_Certified_Dragnet

And if you want to purchase the television shows on DVD go to Amazon and check them out, they're cheap and definitely worth watching.

R.I.P. Roy Scheider

Seems like we've lost another legendary screen and tv actor recently. Roy Scheider, most famous for his roles in Jaws, The French Connection, his small but pivitol role in The Punisher, and his commanding lead role on SeaQuest, has died. I'm sure somewhere the shark is smiling. Well "smile you son of a bitch" cause Roy kicked your ass in the first movie and even now he's still tougher than you are.

WII....Why Bother?

Today, I went on a search for the now apparently very elusive Nintendo WII game console. Seems that NO ONE can keep these systems in stock. I was informed politely that the only real way to get one was to either A) Wait about 2 more years until they were more widespread, or B) go on eBay and pay not the retail price of $250.00 for one, but nearly 6 times that amount(Which for those interested was about $1500.00). Maybe I'm just getting old but this seems terribly irresponsible and pointless to me. I mean Nintendo has what really amounts to a Gamecube 2.0 with a nice emulator system installed, and yet they simply cannot seem to either get games worth playing out for the system, get enough copies of the games that ARE worth playing out, or hell, even get enough of the damned system out. Well I think I will wait the 2 to 3 years like the nice man at Best Buy said. Maybe by then the price will have dropped and the system will actually be available. But, on the other hand this weakens my interest in gaming and it is quite possible that by then I just won't care anymore..........
