Married with Children is one of my all time favorite shows and Al Bundy(4 touchdowns in a single game for Polk high Jersey #33), is one of my all time heroes. I just finished watching the E! True Hollywood story about MwC and I have to say that the ending kind of disappointed me. Come with me and let me tell you my tale of woe, nostalgia and eventual anger.I have watched Married with Children since it first aired back in 1987, alongside other shows such as Duet, 21 Jump Street, America's Most Wanted, and The Tracey Ullman Show. MwC is the only show that had lasted since the first night of FOX programming. I know you're saying 'Whoa, wait a minute! America's Most Wanted is still on dumb ass!', however AMW was canceled for a year so they may still be on the air, but we the viewers had to demand that it be put back on the air after the FOX network pinheads canceled it. Back to the main topic however, MwC was on for 11 years of which I was able to faithfully watch at least 10 of those before year 11 when Fox decided to move the show all over the map and more or less play musical chairs with the show's time and night, thus making it impossible to find and causing the ratings to go into a nosedive.
Needless to say the oh so fucking brilliant minds who pulled off this scheduling triumph decided that due to low ratings the show should be canceled. Not only that, but Ed O'Neil personally asked that the executives allow the original creator's Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt to come back and write a final goodbye episode for the series. The creators were very willing and even called Fox repeatedly to try and get something worked out. THEIR CALLS WERE NOT RETURNED. The show was unceremoniously canceled with no fanfare, no final goodbye episode, no party for the cast and crew and according to O'Neil, not even a God damned 'Thank You Card'. They didn't even tell the cast and crew about the cancellation. All they got after 11 years of being a flagship show for Fox was to be shown the door.
All I can say to the Fox executives after seeing this is HOW DARE YOU! These people busted their asses for you for 11 years making untold millions of dollars for your pitiful network and you disrespect them like this?!? Well you sirs have definitely lost a viewer after this. It also brings the question to my mind of what will you do for Matt Groening when The Simpsons ends? HMMM? Will he get a thank you, a pat on the back or will he be told to get off the lot like you told Married with Children?! Or does the unimaginable Simpsons money mean that he's exempt from the bullshit you put over on the people at MwC?
Well I do have some kind words to say, not to the asshats at Fox but the the great people at Married with Children:
First to Mr. Ed O' Neil I have to say thank you sir for creating one of my favorite characters of all time in Al Bundy. I have enjoyed everything that I have seen you in and I truly hope to enjoy more great work from you for a long long time to come. I especially enjoyed your work in Dutch, Popeye Doyle, Little Giants, and Dragnet.
To Christina Applegate I just want to say that I have enjoyed the movies that I have seen you in and I see a bright future for you in the acting world, and good luck in all of your future endeavors.
To Katey Sagall I thank you for being such a great sparring partner for Ed as Peggy on MwC, and for being very enjoyable in 8 Simple Rules, Futurama, and all of the guest appearances I see you in.
To David Faustino, I hope that your music career goes well and that you have nothing but good luck in your future.
To Amanda Bearse, I have to say thank you for being so great in Married with Children, Fright Night, and for being such a great foil to Ed's character of Al Bundy. I truly think that with out your portrayal of Marcy Rhoades/D'arcy there wouldn't have been as many laughs in the inevitable Al/Marcy fights. :-)
To Everyone else who participated in even the smallest way in making this show a success and I know there are some cast members that I haven't mentioned but are still dear to my heart, I want you all to know that for 11 years you have made me laugh, and made my Sunday Nights my favorite night of the week. I will never forget you and will always honor the memory of Married with Children, even if Fox doesn't.
